Life On The Inside
Situated just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the Denton County Jail is spread out over several acres of land and can hold up to 1,000 inmates at a time. The inmates will find themselves staying in pods of two person cells.

If an inmate is awarded trustee status they are moved into an open barracks type of environment. Trustees are reserved for inmates who are sentenced to non-violent offenses and prove themselves to be model prisoners.

Passing The Time In Denton County Jail
Around the Denton County Jail, there are TVs in each pod along with a recreational yard which is made available to the inmates during the day. There they can play handball or walk around the enclosed yard. According to former inmates, there doesn't seem to be a high level of trouble among the inmate population.

Everyone seems focused on doing their time and getting out. Of course, you will have to adjust your schedule to the jail's schedule. For instance, breakfast is served at 4 AM, lunch is at 10:30 and dinner is at 4 PM. Inmates are allowed to buy items like soup, chips and soda from the canteen once a week. For those interested, church services are held twice a week in the common meeting room.

Good Behavior Policy
The amount of good behavior time an inmate can receive depends on their status within Denton County. As a trustee, an inmate can receive 2 days off for every 1 day served. If an inmate is selected for road crew work they can be awarded 3 days off for every 1 day served. An inmate who completes their assignments and doesn't cause any strife for the guards can skate through their time and get out early.

Visitor and Phone Policy
A visit at Denton County Jail lasts only 20 minutes. However, you are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes ahead of your scheduled visitation time in order to be checked in. Two adults are allowed to visit an inmate at one time. The visits are conducted through glass partitions and over two-way phones. There are no contact visits. Every visitor must have a valid photo I.D. card.

Inmates can make collect calls throughout the day when the phones are turned on. They can purchase prepaid calling cards from the commissary for $9 for 45 minutes of calling time.
